The Franklin County Commissioners have announced that their final public board meeting of 2025 will take place in Mercersburg, offering residents in that area a more accessible opportunity to engage with their local government. This meeting, scheduled for November 19, is part of the commissioners’ initiative to hold quarterly meetings at various locations throughout the county, deviating from their usual weekly sessions in Chambersburg. The shift aims to increase public participation and convenience for those residing outside the county seat.

The upcoming meeting is slated to begin at 6:30 p.m. within Boone Recital Hall at the Burgin Center for the Arts, located on the Mercersburg Academy campus at 100 Academy Drive. This marks the fourth and final instance in 2025 where the commissioners have taken their official proceedings to an off-site venue. Earlier this year, the board held meetings in Greene and Quincy townships, as well as at Fannett-Metal Elementary School. The commissioners’ regular schedule includes weekly meetings at the county’s Administration Building in Chambersburg at 10 a.m., but the implementation of these evening, off-site sessions was a deliberate choice to foster greater community involvement.
Residents interested in attending this November meeting in Mercersburg should note that it is an evening session, distinct from the typical daytime schedule. The commissioners will also hold one more evening meeting on October 15, which will convene at the county’s Administration Building. There will be no evening meeting held in December. For those unable to attend in person, a live stream option is available for all public board meetings. While meetings held at the Administration Building are broadcast on the Franklin County YouTube page, off-site meetings, such as the one in Mercersburg, are accessible via Zoom. Login details for these remote viewing options can be found on the Franklin County website prior to each meeting.
