Hagerstown residents can anticipate a vibrant lineup of community events throughout August and into September, offering a mix of live music, local markets, educational tours, and family-friendly gatherings. These events, organized by various city departments and local organizations, aim to foster community engagement and celebrate the city’s heritage. The series kicks off with “MDWK Music & Market” and continues with a “Community Block Party,” “City Farmers Market,” and the “Ruthann V. Monroe Summer Basketball League” championship. Later in the season, attendees can look forward to the “Jonathan Hager Founder’s Footsteps Walking Tour,” another “City Farmers Market,” the highly anticipated “Battle of the Wings,” and the colorful “Hagerstown Latin Fest.”
The “MDWK Music & Market” is scheduled for Wednesday, August 19th, at University Plaza from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM. This free event, hosted by the Hagerstown Arts & Entertainment District, will feature live music from Faycez U Know, performing American soul, funk, and go-go music. Attendees can also browse a vendor market curated by The Outsider Social and enjoy offerings from the Cousins Maine Lobster food truck. Visitors are encouraged to bring chairs or blankets to relax and enjoy the midweek concert experience.

Following the music event, the City of Hagerstown will host its fifth and final “Community Block Party” on Thursday, August 20th, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. This free gathering will take place in the back parking lot of the Hagerstown Church. Designed to bring city officials and residents together, the block party provides an opportunity for neighbors to connect with elected officials, city staff, and local resources, fostering dialogue and community cohesion.
Food enthusiasts and supporters of local businesses will have multiple opportunities to visit the “City Farmers Market,” sponsored by the City of Hagerstown in partnership with Hub City Brewery. The market will be held at Hub City Brewery, located at 25 W Church St, on two Sundays: August 23rd and August 30th, both running from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM. These markets offer residents the chance to purchase fresh produce and shop from a variety of local vendors.
Sports fans can head to Wheaton Park on Sunday, August 23rd, for the “Ruthann V. Monroe Summer Basketball League” Championship Sunday. Middle and high school students will compete for the season’s title, with free admission for all spectators eager to cheer on the young athletes.
History buffs are invited to embark on the “Jonathan Hager Founder’s Footsteps Walking Tour” on Saturday, August 29th, starting at 2:00 PM from the Hager House Museum. This guided tour, led from the perspective of town founder Jonathan Hager, will trace a path from the Hager House to Zion Reformed Church. The event promises an engaging way to explore downtown historic sites and learn fun facts in celebration of Washington County’s 250th Anniversary. Registration for the tour is available via a provided link. The event is hosted by Hagerstown Parks & Recreation.
Looking ahead to September, the “2nd Saturday: Battle of the Wings” is set for September 12th in the Elizabeth Hager Parking Lot, commencing at 3:00 PM. This event is a collaboration between One Room Media and Downtown Hagerstown Main Street. Details regarding vendors and ticket sales are expected to be announced soon.
The month will conclude with the vibrant “Hagerstown Latin Fest” on Sunday, September 13th, at University Plaza, beginning at 11:00 AM. This free, public event is dedicated to celebrating Latin heritage within Hagerstown. Attendees can anticipate an afternoon filled with live music, diverse culinary offerings, and community vendors. The event is sponsored by the City of Hagerstown.
