Hagerstown Gears Up for a Busy Late Summer and Early Fall with Diverse Community Events

The schedule features a variety of events designed to engage the community, from supporting local artists to celebrating cultural heritage and enjoying sporting events. Kicking off the late summer calendar is an opportunity for local artists and art organizations to receive direct assistance. The Maryland State Arts Council (MSAC), in partnership with the Hagerstown A&E District, will host a grant assistance session on Monday, August 24, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Hub City Vinyl. Staff from MSAC will be available to answer questions regarding funding and grant applications. While appointments are not mandatory, reservations are recommended.

Following the arts-focused event, Hagerstown will delve into its rich history with the Jonathan Hager Founder’s Footsteps Walking Tour on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at 2:00 p.m., starting at the Hager House Museum. This guided tour, presented from the perspective of town founder Jonathan Hager, will trace a path from the Hager House to Zion Reformed Church. The event is part of Washington County’s 250th Anniversary celebrations and offers a unique way to explore historic downtown sites. The tour is hosted by Hagerstown Parks & Recreation.

The City Farmers Market will commence its regular schedule in early September, held at Hub City Brewery, located at 25 W Church St. The market will take place on Sundays from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., offering residents the chance to purchase fresh food and shop from local vendors. The City of Hagerstown is sponsoring this vibrant festival. Coinciding with the Latin Fest, the City Farmers Market will also be held that same Sunday.

Sports enthusiasts will have the opportunity to cheer on the Hagerstown Flying Boxcars as they make their playoff debut. The team will host the North Division Championship Series on Friday, September 18, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. at Meritus Park. Ticket information for this inaugural playoff game is available.

The annual City Park Fall Fest & Fireworks will return to Hagerstown City Park on Saturday, September 19, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. This free, family-friendly event is designed to celebrate the intersection of arts, entertainment, and history. The festivities will culminate with a fireworks display over the lake at 7:45 p.m. The event is hosted by Hagerstown Parks & Recreation. Concluding the month’s events, Hagerstown will host “Thunder in the Square & Music in the Plaza” on Friday, September 25, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., across downtown streets and University Plaza. Attendees can enjoy live music by The Cruisers in University Plaza from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Concurrently, the Alsatia Club will present its annual car show, “Thunder in the Square,” featuring classic cars lining the downtown streets. This event is sponsored by the City of Hagerstown. The final City Farmers Market of the 2026 season will be held on Sunday, September 27th.
