Franklin County residents now have an additional option for purchasing annual dog licenses, with Snider’s Elevator Inc. in Mercersburg joining the ranks of authorized dog license agents. This development, announced by Franklin County Treasurer Lisa Helm, aims to improve accessibility for pet owners, particularly those in the western part of the county who may find it challenging to visit the Treasurer’s Office in Chambersburg during regular business hours.

Snider’s Elevator, a local feed store located at 4551 Lemar Road, Mercersburg, will now sell annual dog licenses, making it a more convenient choice for many residents. This partnership allows Snider’s Elevator to expand its services to the local community and animal owners, a move described as a natural fit with their existing offerings.

Pennsylvania state law mandates that all dogs must be licensed. This requirement applies at the time of purchase or adoption, or once a dog reaches three months of age, whichever occurs first. Annual dog licenses are valid for a calendar year, from January 1st to December 31st, irrespective of when the license was obtained during the year. Owners are expected to renew their dog’s annual license by January 1st each year. For those seeking a more permanent solution, lifetime licenses are available and remain valid for the dog’s entire life.

While annual licenses can be acquired through the county treasurer’s office, authorized agents, or online via http://www.padoglicense.com, lifetime licenses require a direct purchase from the county treasurer’s office, either in person or through mail. Snider’s Elevator is one of five businesses in Franklin County designated as authorized agents for dog license sales. Other authorized agents include Antietam Humane Society, Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter, Franklin Hardware and Pet Center, and Farmers Union Co-Op Inc.

For further information regarding dog license requirements and regulations, the Franklin County Treasurer’s Office can be reached by phone at 717-261-3120 or by email at treasurers@franklincountypa.gov.
