The Frederick Police Department reported that around 8:45 p.m., the group began striking passing vehicles with umbrellas and displaying signs of coordinated preparation for confrontation, including the use of gas masks and protective goggles. Police officers attempting to manage the situation were met with violence, with one officer being struck in the head by a thrown object and another being hit in the groin with a metal pole. Officers recovered various items from the scene, including fireworks, laser pointers, spray paint, and other tools believed to be intended for property damage or interference with law enforcement efforts.
Four individuals were taken into custody at the scene. Three of them face charges of assaulting a law enforcement officer. The department described the group’s conduct and the items found as evidence of premeditated criminal behavior rather than protected First Amendment activity. One window in the vicinity was also reported shattered.

Eastwood, Gainey, and Draghici were additionally charged with second-degree assault on law enforcement officers. The police department emphasized that the investigation remains ongoing and encouraged the public to submit any relevant information or media related to the incident.
While the police department did not specify what protests the suspects were associated with, there were multiple “May Day” protests scheduled.
