Man Fatally Shot in Hancock, Investigation Underway

Authorities are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred in Hancock, Maryland, on Saturday, February 21, 2026. Deputies from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, along with officers from the Hancock Police Department, responded to a call reporting a shooting in the 400 block of Whispering Winds Road around 9:35 p.m.

Upon arriving at the scene, law enforcement discovered a 43-year-old male who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency medical personnel immediately began life-saving efforts. The victim, identified as Brian Keith Lavoie Jr., was subsequently transported to Meritus Medical Center. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, Mr. Lavoie was later pronounced deceased at the hospital.

Initial findings from the preliminary investigation suggest that this incident is isolated. Authorities have indicated that there is no known ongoing threat to the public as a result of this event.
