Cumberland Woman Arrested on Arson Charges Following July Fire Investigation

A Cumberland woman has been taken into custody and faces multiple charges, including arson, following a collaborative investigation into a house fire that occurred on East Fourth Street in July. The investigation, spearheaded by the Office of the State Fire Marshal in conjunction with the Cumberland Fire Department and the Cumberland Police Department, culminated in an arrest warrant being issued by the Allegany County District Court.

On September 10, 2026, officers from the Cumberland Police Department apprehended Amanda Lee Iliff-Williams, 33, in connection with the incident. The fire, which took place just before midnight on July 9, 2026, was discovered by a neighbor who observed flames on the front porch of a residence. The neighbor promptly began an attempt to extinguish the fire with water while simultaneously contacting emergency services.

Upon arrival, Cumberland firefighters worked to contain the blaze. Investigators from the Cumberland Fire Department and Deputy State Fire Marshals subsequently determined that the fire’s origin was on the front porch and that it had been deliberately set. The damage was limited to the porch flooring and a plastic table, with an estimated loss of $1,000. Fortunately, no individuals sustained any injuries as a result of the fire.

Following a thorough investigation, authorities identified Iliff-Williams as the individual allegedly responsible for setting the fire. This led to the issuance of the arrest warrant. Iliff-Williams has been charged with a series of offenses, including three counts of first-degree arson, three counts of second-degree arson, malicious burning, manufacturing, possession or distribution of a destructive device, possession of explosive or incendiary material with intent, malicious destruction of property, harassment, and telephone misuse.

Following her arrest, Iliff-Williams appeared before a District Court Commissioner. She has been remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center and is being held without bond.

The successful apprehension of Iliff-Williams highlights the effectiveness of inter-agency cooperation.
