Washington County is inviting residents to its annual “Remembrance in the Park” memorial ceremony, scheduled to take place on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. The event will be held at the Washington County Emergency Services Tribute Gardens, located within Hagerstown City Park. This year’s ceremony is particularly poignant as it coincides with the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, offering a significant moment for collective reflection.
According to a press release from Washington County, the annual gathering serves as a vital opportunity for the community to unite in remembrance of those lost and to acknowledge the profound courage displayed by first responders, service members, law enforcement, emergency personnel, and ordinary citizens in the wake of the 9/11 tragedy. The ceremony aims to honor individuals who made the ultimate sacrifice in their service, while also recognizing the ongoing dedication of current emergency responders, law enforcement officers, service members, volunteers, and community members who commit themselves to protecting and serving the public.
