Hagerstown Gears Up for a Summer of Diverse Community Events

Hagerstown residents can anticipate a packed summer schedule filled with a variety of public events, ranging from educational animal encounters and historical commemorations to live music, outdoor movies, and community markets, as announced by the City of Hagerstown. The calendar of events, which begins in late May and extends through July, aims to provide engaging activities for all ages and interests. Many of these events are free to attend, while others offer affordable admission, with several highlighting the city’s commitment to celebrating local culture and history.

The summer’s offerings kick off with “Snakes at the Train” at the City Park Train Hub on Friday, May 29, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Hosted by Hagerstown Parks & Recreation, this event, priced at $5 per person, features Wolfe’s Exotic Encounters with snakes and lizards, alongside opportunities to explore the train exhibits. The following Sunday, May 31, 2026, marks the opening day of the City Farmers Market at Hub City Brewery, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Sponsored by the City of Hagerstown in partnership with Hub City Brewery, this market will feature local vendors and a giveaway of free tote bags to the first 75 customers.

Further community engagement opportunities continue into June. A “Character Meet & Greet with the Blue Dog” is scheduled for Friday, June 5, 2026, at the City Park Train Hub, offering another chance for the public to explore the train facilities for $5 per person. The following day, Saturday, June 6, 2026, will host two significant events. From 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., the Jonathan Hager House will present “1776: Hager’s Town at War,” a free living history event commemorating Washington County’s role in the American Revolution, complete with reenactments and demonstrations. Concurrently, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Potterfield Pool will host “Meet a Mermaid,” an event where attendees can swim and interact with a mermaid princess, with ticket purchase including daily pool admission.

The first weekend of June also sees the return of the Western Maryland Blues Fest on Saturday, June 6, and Sunday, June 7, 2026, at Hub City Brewery, featuring prominent blues artists. The City Farmers Market will continue its Sunday run at the same location on June 7. Sundays in June will also feature performances by the Hagerstown Municipal Band at the City Park Bandshell at 7:00 p.m., offering free live music with featured soloists throughout the month.

Summer movie enthusiasts can enjoy free outdoor screenings in City Park. “How to Train Your Dragon” will be shown on Friday, June 12, 2026, and “National Treasure” on Friday, June 26, 2026, both starting at 7:00 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets or chairs, with concessions available for purchase. Additionally, a “Community Yard Sale” will take place on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at the Stables at Fairgrounds Park, from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., featuring numerous yard sale vendors.

Further enriching the summer calendar, “Fishin Frenzy” will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at Pangborn Park Lake, an event designed for youth, seniors, and individuals with special needs. The City Farmers Market continues its regular Sunday schedule, and the month will also include a Juneteenth Celebration on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at Wheaton Park, with vendors and a basketball tournament. Sports enthusiasts can look forward to the Mid-Atlantic Regional Criterium Championships on Saturday, June 20, 2026, in downtown Hagerstown, a competitive cycling event.

The Miss Maryland preliminaries and finals are scheduled for June 24-26, 2026, at The Maryland Theatre, culminating in the crowning of Miss Maryland and Miss Maryland Teen. The month concludes with a City Farmers Market on June 28 and another performance by the Hagerstown Municipal Band. Looking ahead to July, a free “Independence Day Fireworks” display will light up Fairgrounds Park on Friday, July 3, 2026, at 9:30 p.m. The “Stars & Stripes Block Party + 1976 Time Capsule” event will celebrate America’s semiquincentennial on Thursday, July 9, 2026, in downtown Hagerstown, featuring live music and the unveiling of a time capsule.
