Hagerstown, MD is set to host a vibrant summer calendar packed with activities for residents of all ages, according to information released by the City of Hagerstown. The season kicks off in late May with the opening of Potterfield Pool and extends through July with a variety of cultural, educational, and recreational events designed to bring the community together.
The summer entertainment officially begins on Saturday, May 23, 2026, with the opening of Potterfield Pool. Initially operating on weekends through June 9, the pool will transition to a seven-day-a-week schedule. Later that week, on Friday, May 29, the City Park Train Hub will host “Snakes at the Train,” an educational event featuring live reptiles presented by Wolfe’s Exotic Encounters. This event, which costs $5 per person, also offers attendees the chance to explore the train hub’s exhibits, including cabooses and Steam Engine 202, after hours. The City Farmers Market will launch its season on Sunday, May 31, at Hub City Brewery, offering fresh produce and local goods, with a giveaway of free tote bags to the first 75 customers.

June promises an even more extensive lineup. The City Park Train Hub will be the setting for a “Character Meet & Greet with the Blue Dog” on Friday, June 5, providing another opportunity for families to engage with a beloved character and explore the train exhibits for $5 per person. The following day, Saturday, June 6, marks a significant historical commemoration with the “1776: Hager’s Town at War Living History Event” at the Jonathan Hager House. This free event, part of the AMERICA 250 celebration, will feature living historians and reenactors portraying various roles from the American Revolution, including militia drills and firing demonstrations. Also on June 6, Potterfield Pool will host a “Meet a Mermaid” event, offering early pool access and a chance to interact with a themed character, with ticket prices including daily pool admission. The weekend of June 6-7 will also see the return of the Western Maryland Blues Fest, reimagined by Hub City Brewery and featuring prominent blues artists. The City Farmers Market will continue its Sunday operations at Hub City Brewery throughout June.
Additional June highlights include free concerts by the Hagerstown Municipal Band at the City Park Bandshell on Sundays, starting June 7, featuring various soloists. Outdoor movie nights are scheduled for Fridays, June 12 and June 26, in City Park, showcasing “How to Train Your Dragon” and “National Treasure,” respectively, with pre-movie activities beginning at 7:00 p.m. These free showings are presented by Maryland Physicians Care and attendees are encouraged to bring blankets or chairs. A large Community Yard Sale is planned for Saturday, June 13, at the Stables at Fairgrounds Park, featuring numerous vendors. “Fishin Frenzy,” an event tailored for youth, seniors, and individuals with special needs, will take place on Saturday, June 13, at Pangborn Park Lake.
The Juneteenth Celebration, hosted by the Doleman Black Heritage Museum, will be held at Wheaton Park on Saturday, June 20, featuring vendors and a basketball tournament. Downtown Hagerstown will host the Mid-Atlantic Regional Criterium Championships on Saturday, June 20, a competitive cycling event with multiple racing categories. The month concludes with the Miss Maryland preliminaries and crowning events at The Maryland Theatre on June 24-26, with tickets available for purchase.
July events include the Independence Day Fireworks display at Fairgrounds Park on Friday, July 3, a free spectacle illuminating the night sky. On Thursday, July 9, downtown Hagerstown will celebrate America’s semiquincentennial with the “Stars & Stripes Block Party + 1976 Time Capsule” event on South Potomac Street. This AMERICA 250 event will feature live music, historical and cultural vendors, and the unveiling of a 1976 time capsule. The City Farmers Market will continue its weekly Sunday schedule at Hub City Brewery through July 5.
