SMITHSBURG, MD News (3/10/2023) – Recently, federal food assistance programs decreased recipients’ benefit amounts to pre-pandemic amounts. For years, recipients had been receiving an extra amount to help families have access to nutritious food during the Covid-19 pandemic. Beginning in March 2023, many households received hundreds of dollars less than their previous allotment of SNAP benefits, and unfortunately, this comes at a time when inflation and other factors have sent grocery prices ever climbing. More and more families are turning to food banks and other community outreach programs to make sure that their families have food. The good news is, members of our community, like The Artist’s Pallette Hair Salon and Gallery are stepping up to help!

Local Jeep Event to Raise Money to Fight Childhood Cancer
HAGERSTOWN, MD News (10/28/2022) – Members of the local Jeep community are organizing a “1st Memorial Jeeps for Georgie” event, dedicated to fighting childhood cancer through donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The event is scheduled to take place on December 10th at Mason Dixon Dragway.
Hagerstown Block Party to include Drag Queens – Culturally Acceptable or Crosses the Line?
HAGERSTOWN, MD News (10/14/2022) – News Talk 103.7 recently released a story that the Friday, October 28th, 2022 Block Party in downtown Hagerstown, MD will include drag queens performing as “The Sanderson Sisters” from the Hocus Pocus movies. The event is targeted at children, including trick-or-treat, a costume contest, and face painting. While some, including City Councilmember Shelley McIntire who is quoted in the story, believe the inclusion of drag queens in the event is acceptable, others including the Washington County Republican Central Committee believe it goes too far.
