Due to multiple factors including content scraping and copyright infringement, some of our articles will now require a free account to signup, and our in-depth reporting will require a paid subscription. Please click here to learn more.

Radio Free Hub City is moving to subscriber accounts to protect independent reporting, combat content scraping, and bypass algorithm limits.

Over the past few years, big tech platforms have continually shifted how news is distributed online. Recent changes—including upcoming restrictions from Meta and Facebook that limit how many links news organizations can share each month—make it clear that relying on third-party social media algorithms to deliver local news is no longer viable.

At the same time, maintaining an independent newsroom requires protecting our work. Issues like automated content scraping and unauthorized copyright infringement have forced us to take stronger steps to safeguard our reporting.

To adapt to these platform changes and ensure our long-term sustainability, Radio Free Hub City is shifting toward a direct-to-reader model.

What Is Changing?

  • Free Registration Account: Most of our general reporting and daily news updates will now require a quick, free account to read. Creating an account takes less than a minute and ensures you receive our reporting directly via email without relying on Facebook algorithms to see our posts.
  • Direct Newsletters: By joining our email list, you will get key news, investigative updates, and site reporting delivered straight to your inbox.
  • In-Depth & Investigative Content: Premium investigative pieces and deep-dive reports will remain reserved for our paid subscribers whose financial support funds our FOIA requests, legal filings, and daily newsroom operations.

Taking Control of Local News

We believe local news should be accountable to the community it serves—not subject to the whims of social media platform rules, scrapers, or drive-by trolls.

Moving to a registration system allows us to build a direct relationship with you, protect our intellectual property, and ensure that Radio Free Hub City remains a sustainable, independent news source for Washington County for years to come.

Thank you for reading, supporting local journalism, and taking this step with us.
