He also served as the department’s K-9 Commander. During his leadership of the Criminal Investigations Division, he was instrumental in overseeing numerous high-profile cases, collaborating with both internal teams and external agencies to ensure effective case management and uphold high standards of service and accountability. Most recently, Captain Mongelluzzo held the position of Senior Watch Commander, where he was responsible for the oversight of patrol operations and ensuring that departmental standards and community expectations were consistently met.

Further demonstrating his commitment to professional development, Captain Mongelluzzo is a graduate of the Professional Executive Leadership School (PELS) in 2023. He also earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice administration from Columbia Southern University in February 2026. The Field Operations Bureau, which he will now lead, is tasked with providing continuous patrol services, responding to public safety calls, implementing proactive policing strategies, managing traffic enforcement, and engaging with the community across the entire Town of Leesburg.
