A detached garage located at 20111 Jefferson Boulevard in Hagerstown, Washington County, was destroyed by fire late on the night of April 15, 2026. According to an investigation notice from the Office of the State Fire Marshal, the blaze was discovered by a passerby around 11:35 p.m. Preliminary findings indicate that an electrical issue was the accidental cause of the fire.

The fire, which was classified as a one-alarm incident, required the response of 41 firefighters from the Longmeadow Volunteer Fire Department. Firefighters were able to bring the flames under control within 30 minutes of their arrival. Fortunately, no injuries or deaths were reported as a result of the incident, and no residents were displaced.
The estimated monetary loss from the fire is substantial. The structure itself sustained an estimated $40,000 in damages, while the contents within the garage are believed to have incurred an additional $60,000 in losses. Information regarding smoke alarms or fire alarm and sprinkler systems within the structure was not applicable to this incident. No arrests have been made in connection with the fire.
