The fire department arrived on the scene and began extinguishing the flames, which were concentrated at the exterior entrance of the sea container. During the operation, firefighters heard a call for help from the rear of the structure and discovered a male subject residing within. This individual was subsequently rescued and transported to Meritus Medical Center for treatment of his burn injuries.
The preliminary investigation indicates that the fire was accidental in nature, caused by a flash fire originating from a generator. The sea container, owned by Maryland Metals, sustained no structural damage, with only $100 in contents estimated as lost. One person was displaced as a result of the fire. The incident required one alarm, with 15 firefighters and multiple apparatus on scene. The fire was brought under control within 10 minutes of the initial response. A passerby discovered the fire and alerted authorities. There were no arrests made in connection with the incident.
The Maryland Office of the State Fire Marshal, an agency within the Department of State Police, is committed to public safety through fire prevention efforts, including education, inspection, and investigation.
