The fire, which was discovered by a building tenant, originated in a bedroom within the three-story apartment complex. The Hagerstown Fire Department, with the support of other responding units, classified the incident as a two-alarm fire, mobilizing approximately 40 firefighters to the scene. The blaze was brought under control within 10 minutes of firefighters’ arrival. While the exact number of displaced occupants is currently unknown, numerous individuals were observed exiting the apartment building shortly before the fire.

During the firefighting efforts, one firefighter sustained non-life-threatening injuries. This individual was transported to Meritus Medical Center for further medical treatment. The apartment complex was equipped with smoke alarms, but did not have a fire alarm or sprinkler system in place. The preliminary cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
