The incident, which took place on December 17, 2025, in the 800 block of West Washington Street, resulted in two adult males sustaining gunshot wounds. Responding officers found the victims at the scene and they were subsequently transported to Meritus Medical Center. One victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries, while the other sustained more severe injuries and required transfer to a different hospital. Both victims remain under medical care.

Initially, the investigation identified and led to the arrests of two suspects. Alex Sutton, a 17-year-old male from Hagerstown, has been charged as an adult with two counts of attempted first-degree murder and two counts of attempted second-degree murder. He also faces additional charges related to assault, reckless endangerment, and multiple handgun offenses. The second suspect apprehended was Kahlil Thomas, a 19-year-old male also from Hagerstown, who is facing numerous handgun-related charges.

The most recent development in the case involved the arrest of Dontae Clifton Caldwell, a 19-year-old from Hagerstown. Caldwell is now charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder and two counts of attempted second-degree murder. His charges also include assault, reckless endangerment, and various handgun offenses.

The Hagerstown Police Department has indicated that this incident is believed to be isolated, and there is no current threat to public safety.
