The eCycles Day event will take place at Fairgrounds Park, located at 351 N. Cleveland Avenue, in the softball field parking lots. The collection will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., or until the collection trucks are full. The City has partnered with Waste Management, Inc. to manage the collection and disposal of accepted items.
Accepted electronic items for recycling include a wide range of residential electronics. This encompasses computers and their components, such as CPUs, monitors, printers, keyboards, and scanners. Additionally, photocopiers, fax machines, televisions, VCRs, stereos, cell phones, home and office phones, and other consumer electronics are welcomed. However, certain items will not be accepted due to disposal or hazardous material restrictions. These include microwave ovens, smoke detectors and alarms, thermostats, dehumidifiers, any unit containing sludge or liquids, non-decontaminated medical equipment, and large appliances. Commercial bulk amounts of electronics will also not be processed at this event.
In addition to electronics recycling, the event will offer secure document shredding services. Participants can bring unneeded personal documents for secure disposal. The documents will be transported directly from the event site to a paper shredding facility in a secure truck. Following shredding, the materials will be baled and sent to a paper recycling facility. There, the ink will be removed, the paper will be transformed into pulp, and ultimately be used to create new paper products or fiber materials.
To ensure safety and efficiency, participants are asked to remain in their vehicles during the event. City workers will remove recyclables and documents from the vehicles. It is recommended that items intended for disposal be placed in the trunk or the rear area of SUVs for easy and safe retrieval by event staff.
