Waynesboro Library Announces Diverse August Programming for All Ages

The Alexander Hamilton Memorial Free Library in Waynesboro has unveiled a comprehensive schedule of events for August, offering a wide array of activities designed to engage patrons of all ages. From creative crafting sessions and intellectual discussions to educational programs for young children and employment assistance, the library aims to provide enriching experiences throughout the month. The programming reflects a commitment to fostering community engagement and lifelong learning for the residents of Waynesboro, Pennsylvania.

For adult participants, August at the Alexander Hamilton Memorial Free Library promises a variety of engaging opportunities. The Book Club will convene on the fourth Friday of the month, August 28th, from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM, to discuss “West with Giraffes” by Lynda Rutledge. Copies of the book are available for pick-up at the library’s front desk. Chess enthusiasts of all levels, aged nine and up, are invited to the Chess Club on Saturday, August 8th, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. While this is a special summer meeting date, the club typically meets on the first Saturday of each month. Players under twelve will require parental accompaniment, and while participants are encouraged to bring their own chess sets, extras will be provided.

A recurring highlight for adults will be Diamond Dot Mondays, held in Jane’s Tea Room from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM on August 3rd, 10th, 17th, and 24th. Each session focuses on a different project, including a suncatcher, a cat keychain, a bookmark, and a magnet. This group, which explores history through strategy board games, is for adults only and is operating on a special summer schedule before returning to its regular first and third Saturday meetings in September. For those who enjoy crafting, the Hooks & Needles group will meet on Thursday, August 13th, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM in Jane’s Tea Room. This casual gathering is open to all types of crafting projects, offering an opportunity to share tips and learn new skills. Finally, the Socrates Cafe, a global forum for the thoughtful exchange of philosophical ideas with mutual respect, will host meetings on Thursdays, August 6th and 20th, from 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM.

Younger patrons and families have a wealth of options throughout August. The Library Time Capsule project, running from August 3rd to August 7th during regular library hours, invites all ages to contribute letters and memories to a capsule set to be opened in ten years. A drop-in letter-writing station will be available outside the MakerSpace. The library plans to seal the Time Capsule on September 1, 2026.

Children’s programming includes a weekly “Library Voyages” series for ages 2-8, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Each week features self-directed STEAM activities and a scavenger hunt centered on a different theme: Beach Trip (August 3-7), Tiny Town (August 10-14), Construction Central (August 17-21), and Space (August 24-28). Complementing these are “Littlest Explorers” sessions for children aged 0-2, held Tuesdays at 11:00 AM. These lapsit programs incorporate songs, rhymes, books, and sensory activities. Specific dates for Littlest Explorers are August 4th, 11th, 18th, and 25th.

The library’s MakerSpace will be open for creative exploration on Wednesdays, August 12th, 19th, and 26th, from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM. These “Open MakerSpace” times are for all ages and do not require registration, allowing patrons to bring their own projects or start new ones with provided art supplies.
