Tens of thousands of Chevrolet Blazer EVs from the 2024 and 2025 model years are being recalled due to a safety defect that could cause the parking brake to activate unexpectedly while driving or fail entirely when the vehicle is parked. The recall, impacting more than 40,000 vehicles across the United States, comes as General Motors responds to multiple customer complaints and internal investigations that revealed faulty wiring in the parking brake system.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has designated the recall as 25V433. Affected vehicles include 29,865 units from the 2024 model year produced between October 2022 and August 2024, and 10,368 units from the 2025 model year manufactured between April 2024 and January 2025. Only EV models of the Chevrolet Blazer are impacted, and those built after January 31, 2025, are not included due to a redesigned harness introduced at that time.
At the center of the issue is the routing of the parking brake wire harness, which is prone to flexing during normal driving. This can lead to the wires being severed or the insulation wearing off, which in turn may result in corrosion, short-circuiting, or total failure of the parking brake system. GM has acknowledged a heightened risk of crashes if the parking brake engages while driving or if it becomes inoperative when parked.

To remedy the defect, GM dealerships will inspect the harness. If no damage is found, the harness will be rerouted and protected with anti-abrasive tape. Damaged harnesses will be replaced entirely. The fix is free to owners, but no reimbursement plan has been offered since all affected vehicles are still under warranty. While GM reports no injuries or accidents linked to the defect, 97 complaints have been logged, including incidents of rear wheel lock-up and one report of brake function loss.
Dealers were notified of the recall on June 25, 2025, and owner notifications are expected to begin August 11, 2025. Owners of affected vehicles are encouraged to check their VIN at the NHTSA website to determine whether their vehicle is subject to recall and to schedule an inspection appointment.
