Volkswagen is recalling 546 vehicles from the 2023 to 2025 model years after identifying a safety defect involving bolts in the chassis, brake system, and suspension that may not have been properly tightened during manufacturing. The defect, which affects several models including the Atlas, Atlas Cross Sport, and ID.4, could result in drivers losing control of their vehicles, posing a significant crash risk.

The issue was traced back to a supplier, Sesé Industrial Services Corp. in Chattanooga, Tennessee, where programming and process errors during bolt installation were discovered. Although no crashes, injuries, or deaths have been reported, Volkswagen has confirmed five warranty claims—four of which were in the U.S.—linked to the problem. Owners may hear unusual noises if a bolt loosens while driving, which could serve as an early warning sign.

Volkswagen has identified 100% of the involved vehicles as having the defect based on production records. The affected models include various production runs of the Volkswagen ID.4 (2023 and 2024), Atlas, and Atlas Cross Sport (2023–2025). All affected vehicles will receive free repairs consisting of bolt replacements that meet proper specifications.
