Residents of Washington County will soon receive emergency alerts through a new system designed to improve communication during critical events. The county has officially replaced its previous emergency notification platform, Everbridge, with WashCoMD Alerts, an updated system powered by Smart911. Officials say the upgrade offers faster, more reliable notifications about weather threats, infrastructure disruptions, and other urgent situations.

We need your help to stay paywall free

We know you value local news and entertainment that is free, open, and independent. Producing high-quality, paywall-free content isn't free. It takes time, effort, and resources to keep you informed and entertained. Unlike corporate media, we don’t have deep-pocketed investors or big advertisers funding our work—we rely on you, our readers and listeners, to keep Radio Free Hub City running. We're literally running on a shoe-string budget, but keep working hard to provide as much news and entertainment as we can.

If just 5% of local area residents became paid supporters at only $5 per month, we could meet our fundraising goals and continue expanding our news coverage depth while continuing to provide free access for everyone. So, if you'd like to help us in our continuing quest to improve our coverage, please consider becoming a paying supporter.

Will you be one of the 5%?

WashCoMD Alerts will send real-time updates about a variety of emergencies, including severe weather, major traffic disruptions, evacuation orders, and missing persons. Those already enrolled in the old system will have their data transferred, but anyone newly added will need to confirm their email address before receiving messages. Confirmation is completed by clicking a verification link sent to the provided email.

Residents not previously registered can quickly sign up by texting “WashCoMD” to 226787 or by visiting the Smart911 website and following the instructions. Registration is free, and users are encouraged to act promptly to ensure they are not left out of critical alerts.
