McDonald, who has served in the Salisbury-based Lower Eastern Regional Office since joining the agency in 2019, stood out among six regional nominees for his commitment to public safety. His performance in 2024 included over 100 hours of advanced training on hazardous topics like explosives, WMDs, fatal fires, and lithium-ion battery incidents. He also achieved certification as a Certified Fire Investigator, underscoring his professional development in a critical public safety role.
In the field, McDonald conducted 21 fire investigations and 59 fire safety inspections last year, resulting in 14 arson-related arrests. One of his most impactful cases involved Molotov cocktail attacks in Wicomico County. His prompt and thorough investigation helped authorities apprehend two serial arsonists, a resolution that helped restore safety to the affected communities.

In recognition of his service, McDonald received a Governor’s Citation and a commemorative license plate acknowledging his outstanding work. His nomination came not only from his supervisor, Deputy Chief Matt Stevens, but also from several colleagues—a testament to his reputation within the agency.
