Chrysler is recalling a group of 2023 model year Pacifica and Voyager minivans after identifying a defect in the rearview camera system that could prevent the image from displaying when the vehicle is in reverse. The issue, which stems from a soldering flaw in the camera’s internal circuitry, impacts a total of 140 vehicles. Drivers of the affected vehicles could face an increased risk of a collision if they attempt to reverse without a working rearview display.

The defect centers on a void in the solder between the circuit board and the image signal processor within the camera, potentially resulting in a blank screen when backing up. Federal safety regulations require that the rearview image appear automatically at the start of each reverse maneuver. A failure to meet this requirement constitutes noncompliance with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 111, which governs rear visibility. Chrysler determined that about 2.9% of the recalled units are likely to have the defect.
The recall affects five Chrysler Voyager minivans produced between May 4 and May 11, 2023, and 135 Chrysler Pacifica minivans manufactured from May 1 through May 24, 2023. The faulty cameras were supplied by Magna Donnelly Electronics, based in Holly, Michigan. Drivers will not receive any advance warning before the failure occurs, although they may notice the rearview image missing upon shifting into reverse.

Chrysler will begin notifying dealerships about the recall starting June 19, with owners expected to receive recall notices by July 10. The company plans to inspect the rearview cameras and replace any defective units at no cost to the owner. Until repairs are completed, drivers should exercise extra caution when reversing and be aware that the system may not provide any visual feedback. Vehicles produced outside the affected windows or with different camera systems are not included in the recall.
