More than 82,000 Harley-Davidson motorcycles are being recalled due to a safety defect that could increase the risk of a crash. The issue affects a specific rear shock adjuster part that, under certain conditions, may fracture and come into contact with the rear tire—potentially leading to a sudden loss of tire pressure.

The recall, issued under NHTSA Campaign Number 25V375, impacts several Softail models manufactured between 2017 and 2024, including FLHCS, FXRST, FLDE, FXLRST, FXLRS, FLHCS ANV, and FLHC models. These motorcycles were built with a rear shock pre-load adjuster mounting tab that may break due to fatigue, allowing the adjuster to interfere with the rear tire. Harley-Davidson estimates that approximately 0.1% of the recalled motorcycles have the defect.
Although no crashes or injuries have been reported, Harley-Davidson acknowledged 11 service or warranty claims involving this issue. If the defect goes unnoticed, the adjuster could wear a groove into the tire, which might result in a sudden pressure loss. Owners may detect the problem through unusual noises under the seat, reduced handling performance, or visible contact between components if the seat is removed.

To fix the issue, Harley-Davidson will provide a repair at no cost to owners. Dealers will install a newly designed bracket that prevents the adjuster from reaching the tire. The company will begin notifying dealers during the week of June 9, 2025, and owners starting June 16. Affected owners are advised not to ride the motorcycle until repairs are completed, and to park their bikes outside in the meantime.
Motorcycle owners can check if their vehicle is included in the recall by searching their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the NHTSA website beginning June 16.
