As part of its ongoing mission to protect and enhance Maryland’s natural resources, the state’s Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is inviting public participation through a series of workshops at Earth Day events across the state. We know you value local news and entertainment that is free, open, and independent. Producing high-quality, paywall-free content isn't free. It takes time, effort, and resources to keep you informed and entertained. Unlike corporate media, we don’t have deep-pocketed investors or big advertisers funding our work—we rely on you, our readers and listeners, to keep Radio Free Hub City running. We're literally running on a shoe-string budget, but keep working hard to provide as much news and entertainment as we can.
If just 5% of local area residents became paid supporters at only $5 per month, we could meet our fundraising goals and continue expanding our news coverage depth while continuing to provide free access for everyone. So, if you'd like to help us in our continuing quest to improve our coverage, please consider becoming a paying supporter.
Will you be one of the 5%?

DNR staff will be stationed at family-oriented events in each of the state’s four geographic regions, engaging residents with interactive displays and offering surveys to collect input. Attendees will have the chance to learn more about the local environment and enjoy activities such as spinning a prize wheel for nature-themed giveaways. The initiative aims to connect residents more deeply with the state’s natural resources while ensuring public voices are included in future planning.
The outreach begins on April 26 with two events. In the Southern Region, DNR staff will be present at Bladensburg Waterfront Park Community Day from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., while the Eastern Region’s participation will take place at the Salisbury Zoo Earth Day Celebration from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Western Region will follow with a session at the Hagerstown Farmers Market on April 27 from noon to 4 p.m., and the Central Region will conclude the effort on May 3 during Nature Day Everywhere at Druid Hill Park in Baltimore, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

While other outlets focus on getting quotes from politicians who don't even live in our congressional district, we're focused on providing the hard-hitting truths and facts without political spin. We don't lock our news behind a paywall, will you help us keep it that way? If you're tired of news sweetened with confirmation bias, consider becoming a monthly supporter. But if you're not, that's fine too—we're confident in our mission and will be here if you decide you're ready for the truth. Just $5/month helps fund our local reporting, live election night coverage, and more.

Residents unable to attend in person can still contribute by completing the same survey online. DNR officials hope this hybrid approach will maximize participation and provide a broad cross-section of public opinions. The feedback collected will influence future development, conservation strategies, and recreational programming across Maryland’s network of public lands.
