The driver of the tractor-trailer, identified as Ray Pittman, 62, of Milledgeville, Georgia, is facing multiple charges following his arrest. Pittman has been charged with two counts of vehicular manslaughter, homicide by motor vehicle, and two counts of driving while impaired. He is currently being held without bond at the Washington County Detention Center.

According to a preliminary investigation by the Maryland State Police, the crash occurred shortly after 5 p.m. when traffic had slowed on westbound I-70. Pittman, who was driving a tractor-trailer, allegedly failed to reduce speed and collided with the rear of a Ford, driven by Morgan Suter, 27, of Hagerstown, Maryland. Suter, the sole occupant of the Ford, was pronounced dead at the scene.
