HAGERSTOWN, MD News (8/2/2024) – In a troubling sequence of events, the Hagerstown Police Department (HPD) has responded to two more shootings within a 24-hour period, fortunately without any reported injuries. These incidents follow closely on the heels of a fatal shooting that occurred in the city the previous night.

On August 2, 2024, at approximately 3:00 PM, officers were dispatched to the 900 block of Security Road, specifically at the Washington Gardens Apartments, following reports of shots fired. Multiple rounds were discharged, resulting in a residence being struck. As of now, there have been no reported injuries, and HPD officers are actively working to identify the suspect involved. Details regarding the investigation are expected to be updated as new information becomes available.

Earlier that same day, at around 3:00 AM, HPD responded to another incident in the 300 block of Cannon Avenue after receiving a report of gunfire. Upon arrival, officers recovered multiple shell casings in a nearby alley. This case also remains under active investigation.

These incidents have occurred less than 24 hours after a fatal shooting on August 1, 2024. At approximately 11:00 PM, HPD officers responded to the 300 block of North Jonathan Street following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they found a male victim who was subsequently transported to Meritus Medical Center. Unfortunately, the victim was pronounced deceased shortly after arrival.
The recent uptick in gun violence has left the Hagerstown community on edge, prompting concerns about public safety, with many expressing concerns on social media regarding the continuing increase of violent crimes in Hagerstown.
