HAGERSTOWN, MD News (8/2/2024) – The Hagerstown Police Department (HPD) responded to yet another fatal shooting late Thursday night, resulting in the death of a male victim. The incident occurred in the 300 block of North Jonathan Street around 11:00 PM on August 1, 2024. This is the second shooting this week in Hagerstown, with the first shooting on Sunday, July 28th. The previous shooting was not fatal, but did result in serious injuries to a 20 year old male victim.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered a male victim suffering from gunshot wounds. The victim was immediately transported to Meritus Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased shortly after arrival. The identity of the victim has not yet been released.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the shooting stemmed from a dispute between two individuals who were known to each other. The HPD, along with detectives and the Western Maryland Regional Crime Lab, are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

As of 2:20 AM on August 2, 2024, the HPD confirmed that a suspect related to the homicide is in custody.
In a press release at 10:00 AM, HPD stated that the victim in this case is identified as Tyrone Earl Nelson, age 45 of Waynesboro PA. The suspect is identified as Brian Anthony Stuart, age 24, of Hagerstown.
HPD has also urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward and contact them via email at crimetip@hagerstownpd.org.
