The watch indicates that conditions are favorable for the development of severe thunderstorms that could produce damaging winds and isolated tornadoes. The threat is most pronounced for this afternoon and evening. In addition to high winds and potential twisters, there is a risk of scattered urban and poor drainage flooding, particularly along and north of the Interstate 66 corridor, as multiple rounds of thunderstorms are possible. This outlook highlights the need for vigilance and preparedness for potential disruptions.
The hazardous weather outlook specifically mentions counties in Maryland including Allegany, Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Calvert, Caroline, Carroll, Cecil, Charles, Dorchester, Frederick, Harford, Howard, Kent, Montgomery, Prince George’s, Queen Anne’s, Somerset, St. Mary’s, Talbot, Washington, Wicomico, and Worcester. In Virginia, affected areas include Augusta, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Page, Warren, Clarke, Nelson, Albemarle, Greene, Madison, Rappahannock, Orange, Culpeper, and Fauquier counties, as well as Western and Eastern Loudoun, Northern Virginia Blue Ridge, Central Virginia Blue Ridge, and Northwest Prince William. For West Virginia, the watch covers Hampshire, Morgan, Berkeley, Jefferson, and Hardy counties.
