Maryland State Police are investigating a fatal plane crash that resulted in the deaths of three individuals in Prince George’s County on Saturday night. The incident occurred late last night, with emergency services responding to an iPhone crash alert that indicated a potential aircraft incident. According to initial reports from Maryland State Police, a single-engine Piper Cherokee aircraft was traveling from Ocean City, New Jersey, to Montgomery County Air Park. The plane, carrying a pilot and two passengers, went down for reasons that remain undetermined at this time. The crash occurred in a wooded area of Bowie. Fortunately, no other injuries have been reported in connection with the incident.

The alert, received by Prince George’s County Public Safety Communications at approximately 11:45 p.m., pinpointed the crash location near the intersection of Route 50 and 301. A comprehensive search effort was immediately launched, involving ground and aerial units from various agencies. Responders included the Prince George’s County Fire Department, Maryland State Police units from the Special Operations Division, Criminal Enforcement Division, and the College Park Barrack, as well as officers from the Anne Arundel County Police Department, Prince George’s County Police Department, and the Bowie City Police Department.

The wreckage of the aircraft was discovered this morning around 3:45 a.m. in a densely wooded area situated in close proximity to a residential neighborhood off Scarlett Oak Court in Bowie. Forensic analysts from the Maryland State Police Forensic Sciences Division were dispatched to meticulously process the crash site for any potential evidence. Investigators have indicated that the aircraft is believed to belong to a local flight school operating out of Montgomery County and may have been engaged in a training flight at the time of the crash. The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration have been informed and are taking the lead on the ongoing investigation into the cause of the accident.
