A fire that occurred on the evening of May 31, 2026, at 18271 Roycroft Drive in Hagerstown, Washington County, has been determined to be accidental in nature, according to an investigation by the Office of the State Fire Marshal. The incident, which involved a three-story, wood-framed townhouse, was reported at approximately 8:12 PM.

The blaze was discovered by the occupant and was quickly brought under control by firefighters. The fire originated on the exterior rear wall of the structure. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries or deaths as a result of the incident, and no residents were displaced from their homes. The estimated financial loss for the structure is reported to be $5,000.
Responding to the scene was the Maugansville Goodwill Volunteer Fire Company, with 32 firefighters involved in suppressing the single-alarm incident. The fire was controlled within 15 minutes of the initial response. While smoke alarms were present in the townhouse, they did not activate during the event, nor did any present fire alarm or sprinkler systems. The investigation did not result in any arrests.
