An investigation has been launched into the cause of a structure fire that occurred on the evening of June 3, 2026, at 934 Lanvale Street in Hagerstown, Washington County. The fire, which was discovered by an occupant at approximately 8:45 p.m., impacted a two-story, wood-framed townhouse and has resulted in the displacement of four residents. The Office of the State Fire Marshal is leading the inquiry.

The Hagerstown Fire Department responded to the scene of the one-alarm incident, with 48 firefighters working to bring the blaze under control. The fire was reportedly contained within 15 minutes of the department’s arrival. Preliminary assessments indicate that the fire originated in the living room of the residence. While smoke alarms were present and activated, fire alarm or sprinkler systems were not noted as being present or activated at the property.
The estimated financial loss from the fire is significant, with damages to the structure estimated totaling $25,000. An additional $10,000 in losses are attributed to the contents of the home. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries or fatalities as a result of the incident. No arrests have been made in connection with the fire at this time, and the preliminary cause remains under investigation. The Office of the State Fire Marshal is an agency within the Department of State Police committed to public safety through education, inspection, investigation, and fire protection engineering.
