Officers were equipped with details about Thompson’s vehicle, including its description and real-time location through a GPS tracking device. Officer Cooper located the vehicle on West Patrick Street and Norva Avenue. Upon observing the marked patrol car, the suspect vehicle accelerated rapidly, leading officers on a short pursuit. The vehicle was eventually located in the parking lot of a McDonald’s, where a high-risk traffic stop was conducted. Both Thompson and a passenger were safely removed from the vehicle and detained without incident.
During a protective frisk of the passenger compartment of the vehicle, officers discovered a Glock 26 subcompact 9mm handgun concealed in a side pocket of a backpack. A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the recovery of two additional firearms. William Preston Thompson, 19, of Frederick, Maryland, faces multiple charges, including handgun possession on his person, a loaded handgun in the vehicle, and possessing regulated firearms as an individual under the age of 21. He was transported to the Frederick County Adult Detention Center for processing.
