During the interaction with the vehicle’s occupants, officers noted what they described as nervous behavior. A K-9 unit from the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office was requested to conduct a free-air sniff of the vehicle. As the occupants were exiting the car, officers observed what appeared to be a portion of a firearm in plain view. A subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in the recovery of two loaded, non-serialized 9mm polymer handguns and a loaded extended magazine.
The three adults arrested have been identified as Joshua L. Mayhew Jr., born January 12, 2006; Keith D. Miles, born September 15, 2006; and Josiah Dowery, born December 2, 2006. All three are facing charges including possession of a regulated firearm under the age of 21, possession of a firearm without a required serial number, and transporting a loaded handgun in a vehicle. Additionally, Josiah Dowery faces a charge for possession of ammunition by a prohibited person. The press release stated that juvenile information would not be released.
