Approximately 5,000 Wybotics robotic pool vacuums, the Osprey 700 Max and S1 models, are being recalled due to a significant safety hazard. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the lithium-ion batteries within these devices can overheat, creating a risk of burns and fires for consumers. The recall, which impacts products sold between April 2023 and November 2024, affects consumers nationwide.

The affected products include Osprey 700 Max models with numbers WY3312MAX and WY100MAX, as well as the S1 model with number WY200. Both models are described as grey and blue, with the “Wybot” brand name visible on the top or front. The S1 model measures approximately 18 x 17 x 11.5 inches and weighs about 17 pounds, while the Osprey 700 Max is about 14.6 x 14.1 x 9.4 inches and also weighs around 17 pounds. The serial number, which is crucial for identifying affected units, is located inside the top cover of the vacuum. For Osprey 700 Max, serial numbers are represented by “WY100M**,” with specific recalled units being WY100M230117XXXX, WY100M230127XXXX, WY100M230130XXXX, and WY100M230318XXXX. For the S1 model, serial numbers are represented by “WY200-” and “W200**,” with recalled units including WY200-230328XXXX and W200**230330XXXX. These vacuums were sold online through Amazon.com, BestBuy.com, and Wybotpool.com, with prices ranging from $500 to $700.

Consumers who own either the Osprey 700 Max or S1 robotic pool vacuum are urged to cease using the product immediately. To resolve the issue, Wybotics is offering a free replacement WYBOT C2 robotic pool vacuum. The company will provide a prepaid return label for consumers to send the recalled vacuum back. Upon receipt of the recalled unit, Wybotics will ship the replacement product within 15 days. Wybotics has stated that it is proactively contacting all known purchasers of the affected models.

The recall stems from reports indicating a serious risk associated with the battery. Wybotics has documented ten incidents where the pool vacuums overheated or caught fire, occurring both while charging and not charging. These incidents have resulted in nine instances of property damage. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported in connection with these overheating events.

Consumers seeking further information or wishing to initiate the recall process should contact Wybotics directly. They can be reached toll-free at 888-991-5006, Monday through Friday, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Pacific Time. Alternatively, consumers can send an email to safety@wybotpool.com or visit the company’s website at https://www.wybotpool.com/pages/recall-notice and navigate to the “Product Recalls” section.
