During the months of October and November, law enforcement gathered intelligence that pointed to the 17-year-old resident of Elkton, Maryland, as a source for controlled dangerous substances. Based on this information, investigators developed probable cause to secure and execute search warrants for both the juvenile’s residence in Elkton and the vehicle he allegedly used to facilitate his drug-related activities. The arrest and subsequent search were conducted on November 21, with troopers observing the teenager exiting his home shortly before 4:20 p.m. to enter his gray 2019 Honda Civic. Upon his detention, law enforcement discovered 16 bundles of fentanyl in his possession.
Following the initial stop, troopers, in collaboration with the Elkton Police Department’s Street Level Crimes Unit, proceeded to execute the search warrants. The search of the vehicle and the juvenile’s residence revealed an additional 56 bundles of fentanyl. These bundles were described as being contained in blue wax paper bags marked with the “UHAUL” logo, each further secured within a small clear zip-lock bag and bound together with rubber bands. In total, authorities recovered approximately 257.7 grams of fentanyl from the combined searches.
The arrested teenager, identified as being from Elkton, Maryland, was taken to the North East Barrack of the Maryland State Police. He faces felony drug charges filed under juvenile law and was subsequently released to his mother. The Cecil County State’s Attorney’s Office is currently reviewing the case. This investigation was partly supported by the Maryland Criminal Intelligence Network (MCIN), an initiative that receives grant funding and strategic assistance from the Governor’s Office of Crime Prevention and Policy (GOCPP). These resources are designed to aid in the identification, disruption, and data sharing necessary to combat criminal activity and enhance public safety across Maryland. The investigation into this drug trafficking operation remains active and ongoing.
This seizure represents a significant disruption in the flow of illicit drugs within Cecil County, highlighting the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat the opioid crisis. Residents can be assured that agencies like the Maryland State Police, with support from initiatives like MCIN, are actively working to dismantle drug networks and remove dangerous substances from communities.
