According to The Maryland Theatre, Bailey Kercheval has been appointed as the new Executive Director, with his tenure beginning on September 3, 2025. Kercheval brings over ten years of leadership experience in the arts and education sectors, having most recently served as the Chief Operating Officer of Sloan School of Music. During his six-year period at Sloan School of Music, he oversaw a team of more than 12 employees, 45 instructors, and 750 students, contributing to the expansion of the school’s presence and influence within its community.

Kercheval will assume leadership from Jessica Green, who has guided The Maryland Theatre through a significant phase of development and expansion. Green is scheduled to collaborate with Kercheval over the next two months to facilitate a seamless transition of responsibilities. The Board of Directors expressed confidence in Kercheval’s capabilities, citing his established track record in team building, organizational strengthening, and fostering community involvement. These attributes are seen as crucial for the theater’s future endeavors, which include presenting a varied array of performances, ensuring financial stability, and preserving the historic venue for future audiences.
The Maryland Theatre, established in 1915, is a recognized cultural landmark in Hagerstown. The venue has a history of hosting prominent performers, community gatherings, and even making an appearance in the film *Guarding Tess*. Currently, it continues to provide diverse entertainment, educational programs, and cultural events that cater to audiences throughout the Four-State region. Residents can anticipate that this leadership transition aims to further enhance the cultural offerings and operational sustainability of this historic institution.
