New red-light cameras have been installed at the intersections of Eastbound Thomas Johnson Drive at Opossumtown Pike and Westbound Thomas Johnson Drive at Opossumtown Pike. Additionally, speed cameras are now operational at the Northbound 1700 Block of Opossumtown Pike on a permanent basis. Temporary speed cameras have been placed in the 500 Block of West Patrick Street, eastbound, having been relocated from Hillcrest Drive, and on Schifferstadt Boulevard at East 16th Street, eastbound. The implementation of two additional speed cameras, located on Opossumtown Pike in both northbound and southbound directions at the 7900 block, is pending the establishment of power by Potomac Edison, with an estimated completion in the next four to five weeks due to utility-related delays.
The City of Frederick collaborates with Verra Mobility, a provider of traffic safety technology, to manage this program. All recorded violations are captured through secure photo and video and are meticulously reviewed and verified by a member of the Frederick Police Department staff before any citation is issued. A violation for speeding will result in a $40 fine, while a red-light violation carries a $75 fine. It is important for residents to be aware that late payments may incur additional fees. The Frederick Police Department continues to focus on data-driven strategies to reduce traffic accidents and fatalities, aiming to modify unsafe driving habits and ensure the safety of all road users.
