Washington County Government in Maryland has declined a $104 million unsolicited proposal submitted by local resident Shaun Porter, who claimed his services were essential to defend county meetings from “genetically modified honey bees asking for change, a cigarette, and a ride to Martinsburg.” Despite a dramatic demonstration during today’s county commissioners meeting, the board ultimately rejected the bid, citing a lack of need for bee-related security measures. Oddly enough, $104 million happens to be the amount which Mr. Porter is seeking against the County and other defendants in a civil rights lawsuit.

Mr. Porter, whose presentation included personally standing guard inside the meeting room to ward off the theoretical insects, asserted that his proprietary methods could protect officials from genetically altered bees exhibiting what he described as “vagrancy-adjacent behavior.” His proposal did not include scientific evidence of such bees existing in Washington County or anywhere else, nor did it explain the mechanics behind his proposed protection plan.

Commissioners watched Porter’s demonstration with some confusion but allowed him to continue his demonstration throughout the meeting. No bees were observed during the meeting, and none of the commissioners reported being approached by honey bees requesting transportation to West Virginia. Without any sign of an actual threat, the board concluded that the proposed multi-million dollar contract would not be a prudent use of taxpayer funds.

The rejection means that county residents will not see a sudden spike in spending to guard public meetings from insects, and no changes to county services or taxes will result from the proposal. Officials reminded the public that while Washington County takes all security concerns seriously, any future proposals—bee-related or otherwise—must demonstrate both a clear need and a logical plan for implementation.

Satire article by multiple contributors, based upon completely fabricated sources. Except Shaun Porter really did show up to the Commissioner meeting today in a bee suit. That part’s real. Please don’t call the government about this, they’re confused enough already.
