Washington County residents can expect decisions on funding for emergency services, festival planning, infrastructure purchases, and charitable gaming grants as part of a full agenda at the Board of County Commissioners meeting on July 29. According to meeting materials released by the Board of County Commissioners, the open session will begin at 9:00 a.m. and will include presentations on major grant allocations and several cooperative equipment purchases. The evening will conclude with a joint session with Hancock town officials focused on local signage and community updates. Once again, there will be no public comment session at the meeting.

The Washington County Gaming Commission will present its annual report, revealing that $2.35 million in gaming revenue is being distributed to local nonprofits and volunteer fire and rescue services. While the total represents a decrease of about $67,000 from the previous fiscal year, half the funds will still support emergency responders, with the remainder allocated across charitable organizations. With 86 applications submitted, this funding remains a vital resource for community programming and public safety operations.
In a separate item, the Commissioners are expected to accept a $2.25 million capital grant from the State of Maryland, earmarked for construction of a defensive driving track at the Public Safety Training Center. This state-funded addition is part of a broader plan to enhance local emergency services and training infrastructure, directly benefiting first responders and the public.

Several intergovernmental cooperative purchases are also up for approval. These include nearly $94,000 for a new Toro MultiPro sprayer for Black Rock Golf Course and $63,755 for a replacement tractor at the 40 West Landfill. Both purchases are being made through contracts previously awarded by Sourcewell, a national cooperative purchasing group, which county officials believe will yield significant cost and administrative savings. Additional items on the agenda involve budget amendments for PPE procurement, IT support renewals, and public works vehicles and equipment. County Commissioners will also read recent Open Meetings Act violations.
The meeting will reconvene in the evening for a joint session with the Town of Hancock at 6:00 p.m., with a discussion of the Sideling Hill sign project and updates from local leaders.
