Thousands of campers across the U.S. are being urged to stop using certain Coleman camping products due to a newly announced recall over serious safety concerns. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced that over 228,000 Converta camping cots and suspension stretchers sold between 2011 and 2025 are being recalled because their adjustable backrest mechanism can cause finger injuries, including lacerations and even amputations.

The recalled products include Coleman Converta camping cots with model numbers 2000003077 and 2000020282, and Converta suspension stretchers with model number 2000020290. These items, manufactured in China and imported by Newell Brands Inc., were sold at major retailers such as Walmart and Amazon for $60 to $80. Consumers can identify the products by a hang tag on the frame displaying the model number, with tan or white fabric marked with the Coleman logo.
Seven injury reports have been received so far, including two fractured fingers. In response, Coleman is offering a free repair kit, which includes instructions for safe installation. Consumers are instructed to stop using the products immediately and register online or by calling Coleman to receive the kit.

This recall extends to approximately 438 units sold in Canada as well. The defect stems from the design of the seatback adjustment mechanism, which poses a risk of pinching fingers during use. This mechanical flaw affects both product functionality and user safety, particularly in outdoor environments where access to immediate medical care may be limited.
To obtain the free repair kit or verify if a model is included in the recall, consumers should visit https://recall.coleman.com or call Coleman toll-free at 800-345-3278, weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET.
