Consumers who purchased certain electric immersion water heaters online are being urged to dispose of them immediately, following a federal warning about fire and burn risks. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued a safety alert for Laboomkey Electric Immersion Water Heaters, models RDK, RDKL, RDK-H, and HT2000W, which were sold on Amazon.com between May 2023 and May 2025. The units, which retailed for approximately $35, have been linked to dozens of hazardous incidents, including more than 30 confirmed fires.

According to the CPSC, the electric immersion heaters—manufactured by Changsha Yiruituo Trade Co. Ltd. of China—can ignite, melt, or overheat if they are not fully submerged in water. These safety failures pose a serious risk of injury or death. The agency has documented 81 reports of malfunctioning units, with some resulting in significant property damage. The design flaw centers on metal tubes with punctured holes and either a black or white plastic power cord that fails under partial submersion.
Consumers are advised that there is no repair, refund, or replacement available, as the importer has declined to cooperate with any recall efforts. As a result, owners are left with no recourse other than to discard the devices. The CPSC recommends disposing of the heaters to avoid any risk of harm.

While no injuries have been publicly confirmed, the potential for serious burns or house fires remains high, prompting the urgent advisory. Residents who own one of these heaters are encouraged to report any incidents or malfunctions at www.SaferProducts.gov. The CPSC notes that under current consumer protection laws, it must include the manufacturer’s objection to this warning, but the agency is proceeding out of concern for public safety.
