Owners of certain 2025 Ford Mustang Mach-E models should prepare for a safety recall due to a transmission defect that may prevent the vehicle from securely locking in Park. The issue affects 276 vehicles manufactured between March 29 and April 23, 2025, and poses a risk of unintended vehicle movement, especially if the electronic parking brake fails or is manually disengaged.

The defect stems from a manufacturing flaw in the park rod assembly, where a burr—caused by a damaged production tool—prevents the cam from properly engaging the park pawl. This means the vehicle may not meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 114, which requires that a parked vehicle not roll more than 150 millimeters on a 10 percent incline. Although all affected vehicles have an automatic electronic parking brake that should activate in Park mode, failures or manual deactivation of this feature could still lead to dangerous rollaway situations.
Ford identified the issue during routine quality checks at its Cuautitlan Stamping and Assembly Plant in April 2025 and launched a full investigation in collaboration with the supplier and internal review teams. The problem was traced back to a specific date range when faulty tools at a Canadian supplier, Porter Engineered System Inc., may have caused debris that disrupted proper assembly. Affected vehicles are not in VIN order, so owners are advised to call Ford’s toll-free line or contact their local dealer to confirm if their vehicle is impacted.

As a remedy, Ford will replace the defective park rod assembly at no charge to vehicle owners. Notifications to dealers began on June 16, 2025, while letters to vehicle owners are scheduled to be mailed between July 14 and July 18. A phased recall repair program will begin on September 22, 2025. In the meantime, Ford advises affected owners to park their vehicles outside and avoid driving them until the repairs are completed. No accidents, injuries, or customer complaints have been reported so far.
