Owners of certain 2024 and 2025 Honda motorcycles are being advised to stop riding their bikes due to a newly announced safety recall affecting over 1,000 vehicles. The recall involves a defect that could cause oil to leak onto the rear tire during operation, significantly increasing the risk of an accident.

The recall impacts three motorcycle models: the 2025 Honda CMX1100, the 2025 Honda CRF1100, and the 2024 Honda XL750. The problem stems from crankcase sealing bolts that were improperly manufactured. According to Honda’s investigation, the bolt threads may be misaligned due to faulty handling during production and inadequate quality checks, allowing defective parts to pass inspection. While only about one percent of the motorcycles are estimated to be affected, 1,016 units in total are included in the recall due to the potential risk.
If oil leaks from the crankcase and reaches the rear tire, it can lead to a sudden loss of traction while riding. Honda stated there have been no reports of injuries, deaths, or warranty claims related to this issue in the United States as of late May, but the company has received multiple international reports indicating the same defect.

Motorcycles involved in the recall were manufactured between November 2024 and February 2025. The issue was first detected during a factory inspection in December 2024, prompting months of investigation across various markets. Honda has since corrected the defect in its production process and will begin notifying U.S. motorcycle owners by mail on July 25, 2025. Affected owners will be instructed to visit an authorized Honda Powersports dealer for a free replacement of the sealing bolt. Those who already paid for repairs may be eligible for reimbursement.
Owners are encouraged not to ride the affected motorcycles until repairs are completed and to park them outside as a precaution.
