Court documents state that on April 29, 2022, Johnson and four accomplices entered the store, brandished a firearm at an employee, and forced him to the ground. They then used a circular saw to breach an ATM, stealing cash trays containing approximately $35,020. At the time of the robbery, Johnson was on federal supervised release following a 2018 conviction related to drug distribution, a violation that further compounds his legal jeopardy.
Federal prosecutors indicated that Johnson now faces a mandatory minimum of five years and up to life in prison for the armed robbery, in addition to up to two more years for breaching the terms of his supervised release. Sentencing guidelines and statutory considerations will influence the final decision, which is scheduled for September 4 before U.S. District Judge Theodore D. Chuang.
