A Maryland man has been sentenced to federal prison for his involvement in a series of armed robberies that targeted multiple businesses and terrorized victims. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Maryland, Derek Lynn Davis, 36, of Greenbelt, was handed a 13-year prison sentence, to be followed by five years of supervised release. This sentence stems from his conviction for interfering with interstate commerce by robbery and for using, carrying, brandishing, and discharging a firearm during these crimes. Davis and his associates absconded with over $3,000 in cash during their criminal activity.
The court documents reveal that from July 2023 to August 2023, Davis, with the aid of various co-conspirators, carried out armed robberies at six different businesses. Some of these robberies occurred on the same day. Typically, Davis and his accomplices would enter the establishments displaying firearms and demand that employees open their cash registers. The victims, in fear for their lives, complied with these demands. During one of these robberies, a firearm was discharged by one of the individuals involved, striking the ground near two of the victims. This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, an initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence through collaboration between law enforcement agencies and communities.
