The commemorations opened on June 3 with a ceremony at Building 1520’s auditorium, where Army leaders paid tribute to the institution’s enduring legacy. Scheduled events continue on June 13 with the traditional Army Birthday Cake Cutting Ceremony at 12:30 p.m. Following custom, Fort Detrick’s oldest and youngest Soldiers will assist Garrison Commander Col. Chris Chung in slicing the cake. Heritage Displays will be available for attendees to view immediately afterward.
Later on June 13, the day’s festivities will close with a Retreat Ceremony beginning at 3 p.m. The event will feature opening comments, a Re-Enlistment Ceremony, an Enlistment Ceremony, and an announcement regarding the Army Emergency Relief Campaign. The lowering of the National Colors will conclude the day, symbolizing the Army’s dedication to duty and tradition.
