The City of Hagerstown is launching a new historical experience this Memorial Day weekend that will transport visitors back to the days leading up to the American Revolution. The Jonathan Hager House Museum, operated by the city’s Parks & Recreation Division, is unveiling “Jonathan Hager: The Patriot,” a special guided tour series that explores the early days of Hagerstown’s founder and his role in pre-Revolutionary Maryland. The tours will be available on Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. through the July 4th weekend.

We need your help to stay paywall free

We know you value local news and entertainment that is free, open, and independent. Producing high-quality, paywall-free content isn't free. It takes time, effort, and resources to keep you informed and entertained. Unlike corporate media, we don’t have deep-pocketed investors or big advertisers funding our work—we rely on you, our readers and listeners, to keep Radio Free Hub City running. We're literally running on a shoe-string budget, but keep working hard to provide as much news and entertainment as we can.

If just 5% of local area residents became paid supporters at only $5 per month, we could meet our fundraising goals and continue expanding our news coverage depth while continuing to provide free access for everyone. So, if you'd like to help us in our continuing quest to improve our coverage, please consider becoming a paying supporter.

Will you be one of the 5%?

Visitors to the museum, located at 110 Key Street in Hagerstown City Park, will gain a deeper understanding of Jonathan Hager’s life and the contributions of his family during the Revolutionary War era. The home, preserved with original 18th-century architecture and furnished with period artifacts, offers a rare glimpse into colonial life. Guided by trained interpreters, guests will explore the domestic and political context of Hager’s time and the broader spirit of resistance taking root in the region during the 1770s.

Adding to the historical programming, a new outdoor living history event, “1775: Hager’s Town Revolts,” will debut on Saturday, June 7. This free, family-friendly event will bring history to life with reenactors portraying local militia members, blacksmiths, gunsmiths, and civilians from the Revolutionary period. Visitors can witness black powder demonstrations scheduled for noon, 1 p.m., and 3 p.m., along with educational displays and children’s militia drills that reflect the wartime preparations of early Hagerstown residents.
