The Department of Homeland Security has dismissed two recent media stories as false, pushing back against claims that Secretary Kristi Noem endorsed a reality TV show and that a Coast Guard jet replacement request was for her personal use. On Thursday, DHS publicly refuted a Daily Mail article suggesting Secretary Noem supported a television show pitch about U.S. citizenship. The department clarified that Secretary Noem had no involvement with the proposal and was not even aware of its existence. While DHS receives hundreds of pitches each year related to various agency operations, each is subject to a thorough review process. According to Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin, the proposal in question has neither been approved nor rejected and has not reached the Secretary’s attention.
Separately, DHS also corrected what it described as misleading claims regarding the Coast Guard’s planned aircraft replacement. Some outlets suggested that a new jet was being sought for the Secretary’s personal use. In reality, the department stated, the CG-101 G550 aircraft is more than 20 years old and far beyond its intended service life. Officials cited serious safety and communications concerns as justification for acquiring a replacement to ensure secure and effective transport for top Coast Guard and DHS leadership.

The aircraft in question is part of the Long-Range Command and Control Aircraft (LRCCA) program, used primarily by high-ranking Coast Guard officials. Currently, only two such aircraft exist, and one is facing significant maintenance and technological limitations. The department is accelerating upgrades and acquiring a third aircraft to enhance operational readiness and secure communications. These steps are part of a broader initiative to restore the Coast Guard’s aging equipment and maintain its critical mission capabilities.
